Therapy for anxious women in Iowa

I’m so glad we found each other!

You should be so proud of you. I am so proud of you, and I don’t even know you yet! But I am proud of you for just being on this site because I know how much work it takes to act like you’ve got it all together effortlessly…

My story

Why I became a therapist

My name is Katy, and I used to be so anxious that I couldn’t even walk down the halls of my high school without worrying if I was breathing in a socially acceptable way. At night I would lay in bed for hours with racing thoughts, wondering, “Is this normal?”

While I still notice anxiety in my body sometimes, now I am the boss of it rather than it being the boss of me. It’s been helpful to surround myself with women I want to be more like. Perhaps I can be that woman for you.

As a human, I love thrifting, going to bed early, and fancy grocery stores I can’t afford. I can’t stand graduation parties, small talk, and toxic sayings like “no bad days.”

Anxious, perfectionistic introverts…
I see you!

We will get along if…

You write, re-write, and re-re-write texts and emails
You wonder if you’re weird for not being interested in things most people your age are interested in
You love when plans get canceled and get to stay home with your dog

I know you’re so overwhelmed with trying to be who you think everyone wants you to be at all times, but that’s what the world has taught you to do! I help anxious women just like you feel more comfortable in their own skin.

I will show you how to embrace your brilliance rather than continue to call yourself names like, “overthinker.”

The professional stuff

My Professional Background

The best compliment I ever received was when a client asked, “Where did you learn how to be a therapist? Because I’ve been in and out of therapy my whole life, and I’ve never done it like this…”

I have a master’s in social work from UNI, but most of what I know I learned after school. I LOVE to study creative ways of helping women lean into therapy outside of traditional models that were developed by old white guys. You don’t have to be f*cking Picasso, but I just might hand you some Sharpies and ask you to draw a 30 second sketch of how your week has been. It doesn’t even matter what it looks like, I promise!
